Luckily, the Toyota Tundra power door locks are pretty easy to self-diagnose what’s wrong. While there is the possibility of a pretty big electrical issue, most of the problems are minor and easy to fix.

All Doors/Multiple Doors Fail

If you have multiple doors or all your doors don’t work, it is often an electrical issue that needs a certified mechanic’s diagnosis. Why? It could simply be several things like a bad relay, snipped wire or something else. Check your fuses prior to taking it in, but in the end, take it in.

Single Door Doesn’t Work

When a single door won’t work any longer, it is most likely a bad actuator motor inside the door. This is the motor that controls the locking rod. Quite often you will notice a buzzing sound from the door when you the locks are engaged. Typical steps to fix this issue are:

1. Order an OEM replacement part online or through your local parts dealer like parts.olathetoyota.com.
2. Remove the door panel by finding screws on the exterior of the panel and arm rest.
3. While removing the panel, make sure to find and unhook the electrical cable that attaches to the door handle on the inside.
4. Peel back the shroud and follow the door lock rod to the bottom of the door. There is usually an actuator motor attached there.
5. Replace the actuator motor with your replacement.
6. Reverse these instructions to put the door back together.
